There is nothing that can be done to save 4chan. It's a big city now like Tokyo or New York. Whenever you have a small community people naturally tend get along with each other but as the community grows people become increasingly estranged from one another and the only thing that keeps it together are the rules of engagement. The rules on 4chan are strictly enforced because otherwise there would be total chaos (take a look at /qa/) but also anything that doesn't break the rules is allowed and mods can't ban people for superfluous reasons anymore. You can't get mods like W.T. Snacks where rules are lax but also you can't get mods who will ban people for 'liking naruto' and 'normalfag'. The only logical conclusion when you have a large community centered around free speech is that the community will be populated by normalfags.
Personally, I think every 4chan board should have their own chan. /qa/ has soy party, /r9k/ has wiz/liz, /b/ has heyuri etc. It's analogous how people tend to work in big loud cities but occasionally visit grandma and grandpa (oldfags) in the country side and eventually retire there (as an oldfag).
