If It works don't fix it, I'd do the same thing but I have a medical issue and family got me a smartphone.
I just use it as a glorified mp3 player either way though.
I like occasionally taking old computer parts and frankensteining them together and giving them to people I respect if that's similar, makes me good at building pc's and most people just want youtube machines anyways.

>>893>I just use it as a glorified mp3If you bought a regular mp3 player you could listen to it and not have to worry about phone calls or text messages.

>>894I have a few old ones that probably don't work anymore, but thinking about it brings back comfy memories of escaping a strange world into day dreams to angst music in cars or bus.
I almost never get calls or text it's fine, I'm okay at blending in if I need too phone calls aren't to bad.

>>895There's no need to get nostalgic for better times. You can still go out and buy newer model mp3 players and basic cell phones. And by doing so you're telling normie tech companies that you not comfortable with them cramming high-end monitoring technology into your pocket.
>phone calls aren't to badMaybe I'm a bit of a neurotic but I like having my phone off as much as possible.

If you want to get technical about it, I believe we should go back to those days. The advancement of technology is getting scary, especially with the fact that we still have done little to nothing about mass surveillance.
That being said, I would like to get a flip phone when my smartphone dies. All I need is text and calling and I would rather not carry around a pocket pc with unnecessary apps that I will never use.

>>897I'll probably tinker with some old ones first before I think about buying one, I'm not too worried with surveillance yet I think it's funny if someones wasting their life watching mine.
And yea I'd do the same just trying to keep up relations so I don't get kicked out or something before I have exit routes.

>>898>unnecessary apps that I will never useAnd that secretly listens in on you. People stupidly think companies and the state are benign entities that won't use high end mobile technology to monitor peoples activities.

I thought about getting an IBM Thinkpad Transnote from eBay but figured it would be better put to use by someone else.

>>1577what has facebook to do with? Also phones mostly have minimalistic design.
On top of that having a smartphone is some sort of minimalism because it's basicaly mini computer and You don't have to carry mp3 player,tv,camera etc.
did i get the bait?

are there modern flip phones out there? i wouldnt mind getting one for basic internet (lurking) and phone use
No.
1587
>>1583>facebook You expose yourself to the world in an extreme way when you create an altar to yourself on the internet. The idea behind being a minimalist is to live a less, not more complex life.
>smartphone You're trying to pull yourself away from complex devices that have networking capabilities and level down to something simpler. And who said you needed to bring a tv and camera everywhere you go? Stop taking so many damn pictures.
>>1585It's not a flip phone but the new nokia 3310 is a nice looking, durable feature phone. CAT also makes some nice feature phones but again, they're bar form.
As far as flip phones go most of the ones I seen are kind of cheap or are semi-smartphone and tied in with google using KaiOS. Personally I would look for something that doesn't use a google os and gps.
